I've been really trying to figure this out. I realize that I get paid a shit wage:-( which I accepted to be able to get home more often.:-(
But, I've been thinking about the difference between Gordon Trucking (the company I'm with now) and Knight Transportation. (The company I was with last year)
Both companies where paying me .34 cpm (cents per mile) :-( Both had trucks that ran 62 mph:-( But the Knight truck would get up to 65 mph if I got my idle time down:-) Which I never did. I like to watch TV at the end of the day:-D
At Knight I was always complaining about sitting around:-( How can I make money sitting.
Here at Gordon I can't get the time to update my Facebook. But some how I made more money at Knight then I do at Gordon?:-(
Okay, so with two different trucks that ran the same speed at the same pay rate. How is it possible that I made more money, at the company that I just sat around all the time?:-o
Well I've been thinking about this all day. At Knight most of my runs I would drop the trailer at the customer and pick up an empty. But like tonight, I've got an unload in the morning and I'm sitting by the customer. Granted. If it were a drop, I could be on my way to the next load already, but like I said before. Knight use to leave me sitting anyway. So what then?:-(
Then I got to thinking about this run I did from Phoenix to Denver a couple of weeks ago. With Knight I would run up to Flagstaff, out to Albuquerque and up to Denver. All Interstate driving. While at Gordon I have to head north from Flagstaff up the two lane highways up to Utah and over to Denver.
But they where the same runs, due at the same times. But the Knight runs where more miles in the same or less amount of time, not to mention that with the Knight runs I could pick a place to park more often. But when your running two lane roads you don't have the same options for parking:-(
So, yes. I made more money and I was happier at Knight.:-( Yet Knight had its own set of problems that I don't want to go back to.:-( What to do?
