A little under two years ago I got my license to talk on amateur radio. My call sign is KF7KWK.
This afternoon I received an email from another operator that I had a conversation with a couple weeks ago while headed into Prescott Valley AZ.
I have a GPS unit on my radio that broadcasts my location to a system call APRS. Automatic packet reporting system. I was lucky Enough to be able to get one of these radios that actually displays other nearby stations that are also transmitting APRS. We can actually text message each other also.
Anyway, about a month ago I was heading into Prescott Valley AZ. When I heard someone calling me on the radio. It was the first time someone contacted me because of my APRS and this operator told me he has been following my travels.
Then about two week ago I had another station text message me while I was down around New Orleans. We had a nice short conversation. That was really cool.
My location is a link to see where I am. It's possible to track my location and even message me. If for some reason this link doesn't work. You can search me at KF7KWK-14 and it should bring up my location.
Just another cool aspect of amateur radio. Check it out. If your interested in amateur radio. Feel free to contact me. I've had a lot of fun with it and have had coffed with several nice people I'd have never met without the Ham radio.
