I'm sitting here at the house, waiting to go to work. I have to do a delivery in Commerce California at 9:00 tomorrow morning. My dispatch must not think that drivers a capable of doing their jobs, because they have told me that my delivery is for 8:00. They always tell us we are do an hour before we actually are. I found that out the hard way when I showed up at a customer at 5:00 for my 5:00 appointment. And nobody even came to work until 6:00. Anyway, I got back to the yard 6:30 pm yesterday. Just dog tired. Turned in my truck and got dispatched on my next run out. Basically they just tell me that I'm going to Commerce California. It's about 6 hours away and I would like to get there early enough so I can get a 10 hour break in before delivering. So I get up at 8:00 am and call in to see where my trailer is. I'm informed that I wont be going out until later this evening. Because my trailer is still so far away. I call again at 4:00 pm and am told it probably wont be in until about 8:00 pm. Okay, now if I leave at between 8 and 9 I wont get there until between 2 and 3 am. That is 6 to 7 hour until delivery. I can't do that, so now I end up leaving between 2 and 3 am to get there between 8 and 9 AM. The problem is that basically I've been off all day, but by the time I get delivered I have used up half of the days hours, so I'll end up staying in Oxnard again.
This company is a slip seat company. They want to keep the trucks running. So when you come in, you turn in the truck so someone else can take it back out. Which is fine, except for the fact that when they do this to me, this makes me be in the truck longer than I should be. So I have to carry more stuff than I want to, which is another pain in the ass. Now I actually feel like I'm moving in and out of the truck every couple of days. I get what they're shooting for, but it just isn't working.
