Gordon Trucking

Sitting at Skyharbor Airport in Phoenix waiting to for a 6am flight to Nashville Tennessee. I had planned on dropping off my Gordon truck at the Phoenix yard and then coming here for my flight. But my dispatcher said that they couldn't justify the trip to Phoenix and I would have to drop my truck off at a customer in Kingman Arizona. Well that meant I'd have to provide my own ride to Phoenix. Screwed again. But glad to be out of there.

The thing that sucks is that I was suppose to fly out of Las Vegas. I talked the new boss into flying me out of Phoenix so I could bring Gordon their truck to a terminal. Thought it all out so that I wouldn't be accused of abandoning the truck. And of course that was the first thing I thought of when they said to leave the truck in Kingman. The problem with truck abandonment is that the company can charge me the cost of bringing a driver out to the customer to pick up the truck. So I told them that if they wanted me to leave the truck in Kingman that they would have to leave instructions on the Qualcomm to do so.

See the company is required to store all qualcomm messages for I think 6 months to a year. Something like that. And Qualcomm actually stores the messages for years. So if Gordon tries to charge me for abandonment there are stored communications giving me instructions to do so.. You drivers that are afraid of getting screwed over by your company. Get in the habit of making your dispatcher put it on the Qualcomm.

But it's been one hell of a year. I have had more jobs in the last 10 years then I wish. So when I started having problems here I tried to make it work. It started when I first hired on. I was at home prepping for my trip to Rancho Cucamonga for orientation when they called me up and said "change of plans, we're going to fly you up to Seattle for orientation. Okay fine. And it took a couple more days to get to work. Then they found another problem that cost me another week. But this was fine. Because I was home. But then when I got up to Washington I'm informed that I'd getting 2 cents a mile less then what we agreed on. And a year and a half later, after know raise. I figure I can make more somewhere else.

This year started out with a brand new truck. Actually got this truck on New Years Eve. I don't usually like new trucks. I would rather have someone else run the first 100 thousand miles off of the truck. That way they can find and get fixed all the bugs. Well a couple months after getting this truck I was in Las Vegas picking up a trailer. As I walked around the truck I could see that one of my axles was going in the wrong direction. I dropped the trailer and went to the Vegas Freightliner. Broken leaf spring. and they would have to order a replacement. Couple of days. So I ask for a motel and get denied. They said I could stay in the truck at the dealership. Well the first and biggest problem is that after hours the gate is locked. So know. I can't stay there.

Anyway. after fighting with these people about this I finally just had my wife drive out to vegas and pick me up. that's cool. Spent some time with the family. But, Gordon has trucks coming out of my home town several time a week going up threw Vegas. So I call and arrange to have a driver give me a ride back to Vegas. Twice. Because the first time something happened where the driver didn't know anything about it. Guess what? Same thing happened the second time. Okay, so I could see a driver saying "screw that, I don't want someone else in my truck" Once. But.....

So I finally have my wife take me back to Vegas. I should have just gotten another job then. But like I said earlier. I've been trying to make it work this time.

This one really pissed me off though. A couple of weeks ago I was pulled out of my truck ( for mechanical reasons ) and put in a loaner. Problem was I was headed to Denver without a jacket. I was told to go straight up out of Phoenix to the I-70 and head up over the mountain. I knew there was a pretty good storm that way and I'd end up chaining my tires without that jacket, and I wasn't about to do that. So I went over to Albuquerque and up. Well the next week I was written up for going out of route.

That's not the part that pissed me off. The thing that pissed me off was the very next week they routed me to go threw Albuquerque. So when they found out that I had plans to fly out of Phoenix after dropping they're truck off. It was only fitting that they would deny me to bring the truck to Phoenix. But I'm just trying to be happy about the fact that I no longer work for Gordon Trucking
